Tubular Bells II (side a) by Mike Oldfield
Sequenced using Cakewalk Apprentice by Graham Walters
Written to suit the Sound Blaster AWE 32, with the Control panel set as follows:
Effect Types: Reverb:
Reverb & Chorus Room 3
Synth Bank: Chorus:
GS Chorus 3
User Bank:
NONE
I think that this is quite a close transcription of Tubular Bells II,
just a few subtle changes.
It should sound fine with any sound card that uses the Roland GS standard,
if you have a General MIDI card most of it should sound OK, but a couple of
sounds are missing/substituted.
Don't try using a MT32 the sounds are all wrong.
No userbanks were used, which allows the sequence to run on a standard AWE 32
without any memory upgrade.
If you have added a lot of memory to your AWE card then there's no reason why
you couldn't add some 'Master of Ceremonies' samples, to tell the truth I
couldn't be bothered as I've been working on this for a couple of months and
have really lost interest.
(Hence no big build up towards the end of 'The Bell'.)
Some parts I must admit sound a little bit odd, but what do you expect with a
190.00 pound sound card and free software, other bits don't sound bad at all
even if I say so myself.
Yes, I know that during "The Bell" there is suppose to be a 'Digital Sound
Processor' bit, but Creative Labs didn't see fit to include one in the AWE,
I played around with a couple of sounds and riffs but it just didn't sound
right so I left it out, all letters to Creative Labs ...................
If I can build up enough enthusiasm and find enough time, I will attempt the
second side, most of it is fairly simple(!!!). I've produced a rough draft,
the hardest bit for me is trying to get the banjo plucking riffs on 'Moonshine'
(anyone know a banjo player?). Also does anyone know how to sequence a
lunatic running and jumping around a stage making strange noises
(Altered State), I think I'll have to work round that one.
Feel free to pass these files to anyone you like, just don't charge anything
for them please.
